South Battery Park City Resiliency Project: Design Services

Location: New York, NY
Client: Battery Park City Authority
Team: Multidisciplinary team headed by AECOM

Nautilus' Role: Urban Design and Sustainable Waterfront Development

Lower Manhattan, at the heart of the nation's largest metropolitan area, faces significant challenges arising from climate change such as intense storm activity and gradual sea-level rise. The southern end of Battery Park City is especially vulnerable because of its location at the confluence of the Upper New York Bay and mouth of the Hudson River.

To address the threats posed by future storms, NY State’s Battery Park City Authority is working with a multidisciplinary team to design and construct a comprehensive flood risk reduction system from the Museum of Jewish Heritage and Wagner Park to Bowling Green where it will tie into the future Lower Manhattan Coastal Resiliency project by the City of New York.

Nautilus' role on the multidisciplinary team is to provide services in urban design and sustainable waterfront development, including services on WEDG® (Waterfront Edge Design Guidelines) certification, community engagement and aquatic habitat restoration.
