Center for Green Tech Brooklyn: BRIDGE
Location: Southwest Brooklyn, NY
Client: The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey
The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey (PANYNJ) explored a number of ways to reposition outdated port areas on six miles of the SW Brooklyn waterfront to meet growing regional needs. BRIDGE, an innovative business/academic center, was intended to provide job training and incubate businesses in green technologies, such as clean energy, green recycling, and climate change.
The goal of this pilot project was to maximize the human potential of the SW Brooklyn waterfront communities by building a knowledge-based link between creative manufacturing industries and technical research on the one hand with education and training connected directly to jobs on the other.
As the PANYNJ's consultant, Nautilus helped structure both the long-term business/academic plan and short-term green design of the first module for the Center. Nautilus led an interagency advisory team with representatives from US and Dutch public agencies, and obtained input from numerous potential partners, educators, academic institutions, existing incubators, private businesses, and public agencies.
Other services provided by Nautilus included assistance with site selection, public communications, logo design, and funding applications. A highlight was a community roundtable organized by Nautilus with over 30 SW Brooklyn local leaders in business, education, and community stakeholders which produced recommendations on the job training, business, and employment needs of the SW Brooklyn waterfront.
