Originally constructed in the late 1940s, the FDR Drive is undergoing phased reconstruction by NYSDOT to meet current standards of highway design and address operational and safety issues. Directly adjacent to the FDR's next segment - from 25th to 42nd Street - a number of major projects have been proposed including several that may interface with the highway.
Nautilus is providing services in planning, urban design and real estate to assist the engineering team working with NYSDOT, led by HDR/Daniel Frankfurt, as they develop alternatives for upgrading the FDR. In addition to analyzing existing waterfront conditions, community plans, and adjacent development proposals, Nautilus is consulting on waterfront open spaces, Waterfront Access Study, and view corridors.
